The Patch Job

I've had a hole in my jeans in the right hip area for a long time that I have patched before and the patch disappeared in the wash (maybe it's with the missing socks)!

Since then, I've been thinking about ways to cover the hole in a creative way. This weekend I was remembered a video I had seen with various creative ways to mend clothes. I vaguely remembered seeing a method for mending a hole that looked like a spider web.I searched and searched, but as the Internet would have it, the location of the video from my memory had become a buried treasure!

After searching related search terms, I finally found the name of the embroidery stitch for which I had been looking: the whipped or ribbed spider web stitch. I found a couple of great videos (this was my personal favorite) and finally on Sunday evening, I sat down to cover that hole!

Check out my handiwork.

The original hole. It started small, but you know how it goes with holes in jeans...

I did a running stitch around the perimeter of the hole.

Then I did a buttonhole stitch to reinforce the edges.

Then I started by creating the spokes.

The ribbed spider web stitch in progress.

At this point I decided that I needed to UNDO a good portion of my progress because I had attempted to anchor the stitches as I neared the edges. It didn't look as nice as I would have liked, so I took out several rounds and continued from there.

The final product. The variegated embroidery thread created an ombre effect in the web.

Viola! A decorative Patch Job!

Creativity is... Amazing mash-ups

Creativity is my thing. I've come to embrace the fact that my brain is wired to see things creatively, to create the tangible from the intangible, to bask in creative adventures.

I consider myself a creativity curator and I approach this blog in that way.

For the untrained eye, the posts I share here may seem really random, but there is a method to the "madness."

Take this video for example. When I watched this video, my first reaction was "OMG I love the creativity! Look how they combined two or three seemingly disparate forms of creative expression and combined them together!!"

Translation: Creativity is...amazing mash-ups!

What are you mashing-up today?
